Catholic Social Teaching: A Foundation for Faith and Action
At St Bons, we believe that Catholic Social Teaching (CST) is an integral part of our faith journey. CST is a set of principles that guide us in living our faith in a just and compassionate way. It helps us to understand our responsibilities to one another and to the world around us.
CST and Our Gospel Themes
Our school year is structured around three key Gospel themes:
· Love Thy Neighbour: This theme emphasises the importance of loving and caring for others, especially those who are most vulnerable. Within this value the children learn about the CST principles of Rights and Responsibilities, Human dignity and Family and Community.
· Seek the Truth: This theme encourages us to seek the truth in all things and to work to create a fair and just world where everyone's voice is heard and all people have access to what they need . Within this value the children learn about the CST principles of Solidarity, The Common Good and Option for the Poor and Vulnerable
· Care for Our Common Home: This theme highlights our responsibility to care for the environment and all of God's creation. Within this value the children learn about the CST principles of Stewardship and Dignity of Work.
Putting Faith into Action: The Walk the Walk Awards
Through our Walk the Walk faith awards, students are empowered to put their faith into action. For each Gospel value, students identify actions they can take to:
Know:Understand the value intellectually
Feel: Connect emotionally with the value
Do:Take practical steps to live out the value
These actions often align with CST principles, allowing students to see how their faith can make a real difference in the world.
Celebrating the Impact
Termly assemblies celebrate the impact of these actions, highlighting the ways in which students have lived out their faith and applied CST principles. By connecting CST to our Gospel themes and the Walk the Walk awards, we aim to foster a deeper understanding of our faith and inspire students to be agents of change.
