Prayer and Liturgy at St Bonaventure’s
At St Bonaventure’s Catholic Primary School prayer and liturgy takes place weekly and is a time when the whole school community comes together in the presence of God.
A typically week for whole school liturgy:
Monday Ethos assembly led by the Principal and/or Deputy head teacher
Tuesday Principal prayer and liturgy
Wednesday Key stage assemblies or child led class reflections
Thursday Gospel assemblies led by Deputy head teacher
Friday Class assemblies/Walk the Walk assemblies/celebration assembly
Whole school Masses take place each term and parents and carers are encouraged to attend. These take place in St Bonaventure’s Catholic church.
We plan lots of opportunities for our children to come together in prayer throughout our school year.
Harvest
We dedicate the month of October to Harvest. We celebrate our Harvest Mass in church where a Harvest loaf is presented. We thoroughly enjoy sharing the bread when we return to school.

Lent reflections
Our Year 6 chaplaincy team plans and delivers weekly whole school reflections during the season of Lent. Most recently, they used ‘Lent in a Bag’ to support classes to engage in scripture and think about what we can do to prepare for and be ready to celebrate Easter.
Crowning of May
At St Bons we dedicate the month of May to Mary. On the 1st May every year we celebrate Mary and her life by holding our annual Crowning of Mary service. Our statue of our lady, Mary, is always crowned by our youngest and oldest pupils.

Year 6 retreat to Kintbury
At the start of Advent our year 6 cohort takes part in a three day retreat at St Cassian’s Centre, Kintbury. They spend time together getting to know themselves and their peers better, and appreciating the place of God in their lives.

Ash Wednesday
The season of Lent begins with KS2 pupils attending Ash Wednesday Mass at St Bonaventure’s Church alongside parishioners. Reception and KS1 pupils attend an age appropriate and accessible service in school.
Stations of the Cross
Our KS2 Chaplaincy team plan an interactive Stations of the Cross for the whole school to come together and pray.
Saint Bonaventure’s Feast Day
We celebrate our feast day on 15th July. We always plan an outcome that supports our children to follow in St Bonaventure's footsteps.
St. Bonaventure was a Franciscan friar known for his dedication to peacemaking. The children have enjoyed learning about his journeys and imagined the challenges he faced.
